05. Book Cover Design - 2

2. Process

According to the measured size, I made a book cover pattern with Indesign software. Indesign has a lot of useful functions for publishing books, thus it is quite convenient for book design.

After that, I used Illustrator for a drawing main image of the cover. Adobe Illustrator is good for drawing and illustration, hence chose this software.
Before I started the drawing, I had placed the initial sketch in a layer, and I drew each of glass shape’s illustrations on it.

Moreover, I put the each of illustrations’ shadows. I wanted to express a shadow of glass geometrically, because generally their shadows spread every which way beautifully.

After I had finished the drawing with Illustrator, I applied the file to the pattern which I made by Indesign first time. Finally, the making book cover was finished.

Before the book cover was printed out for real size, I had printed out as a trial to check the colour and revise. It did not have any trouble, hence I immediately printed out the images for a real size.

The final piece of work was printed on A3 paper.

Spine

Those pictures show the book which is wrapped the new book cover.

Spine: I designed spine and the logo of publisher almost the same as before, however, I tried to change the font and the colour look more attractive. Moreover, the logo of publish

Back cover: It designed also same as before, but I considered an align of texts which contain about the story of the book.

Font: I used Futura for the whole of the book, because I thought the feature of this typeface is suitable for expressing a clear of glass.

4. Reflection on my work

The book cover size was perfectly accurate for the real book without a hitch, thus I am quite pleased.

However, the final piece of work was printed more lighten than my expectation and the previous printing. The beige colour was expressed as almost white, and the emerald green colour was printed as just sky blue. For the reason, I am wistful about that.
Next time, if I have other projects like that, I would try to check the correct colours more than one time for reducing errors.
